Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. This site has been designed to Educate people in regards to not only Autism, but also signs of autism, autism symptoms, understanding autism, autism spectrum disorder, autism research, autism information, autism diagnosis and Autism Treatment and many other Disorders. Autistic spectrum disorders impact the normal development of the brain processes related to social interaction and communication skills. Children and adults with autism typically have difficulties with verbal and non-verbal communication, social interaction and leisure or play activities.
So your child has autism? Now what? The shock hits you right in the heart! Your emotions start to kick in, How could this happen? What caused this? Why my child? What do I do now? After crying, screaming, anger, sadness or depression, you pull yourself together and say OK, this is our new life, now how are we going to live it!
The Journey Begins: Obtain a large notebook and start your diary! Document every doctor's appointment, write down what you are told, what tests will be done, the dates they are done and the results of all test, medications, therapies, etc. Keep copies of all of your documents! Take a picture of your child, write the age, weight, height and any birthmarks etc. on the back of the picture. This documentation will help you along your journey on days when you are brain-drained and you can't remember your name, much less what date a test was done when you are asked.
Seek Early Intervention! This is a very important step! The sooner you start getting your child help, the better they will be! Contact your local Department of Education, Special Education section, and get it started! Early intervention will be the beginning of your IEP documentation. This early education is so vitally important to help your child! So get it done as soon as you know or even suspect your child may have a developmental delay!
The purpose of early intervention is to lessen the effects of the disability or delay. Services are designed to identify and meet a child's needs in five developmental areas, including: physical development, cognitive development, communication, social or emotional development, and adaptive development.
